129 million girls are out of school. That means that there are a higher number of girls out of school than that of certain countries' populations. Furthermore, only 49 percent of countries has obtained gender equality in primary education, 42 percent in lower secondary education, and 24 percent in upper secondary education. These alarming numbers are a result of many causes, including child marriage, poverty, and sexism.
